Baroque Bow
Pieter Affourtit, 2007

Short clip-in bow, snakewood, black hair. This is what violinist, viola d'amore player and bow maker Pieter Affourtit calls his "discovery bow" for the viola d'amore. It is unusually short and for its size rather heavy, as heavy as a 72 cm bow. The main advantage of the bow is that it clings to the strings even with rapid bow movements and odd string crossings. The black hair gives the bow a bit bolder sound. It takes a little while to get used to this bow.
