Attilio Ariosti’s Complete Music for Viola d’Amore, edited by Thomas Georgi. See also Georgi's recent CDs of the Ariosti on the CD - recordings page. From the annoucement:
"This edition of works for the viola d’amore of Attilio Ariosti (1666-1729) improves access for string players to a remarkable repertoire. There are two solo parts in each set, one in Ariosti style scordatura, one in real notation for violinists and violists, as well as two scores, for continuo players. A third score is supplied for the cantatas. The score is a clean urtext style score, with no continuo realisation. Translations of the cantata texts are included.
The 21 solos that comprise the Collection of Lessons for the Viol d’Amore, and the Recueil de Pièces pour la Viol d’Amour, together with two cantatas featuring obbligato viola d’amore, Pur al fin, gentil Viola, and Fileno, che le Frodi. 23 works in all, are a significant part of the 18th century solo repertoire for the viola d’amore. More than half of this is now in print for the first time. We are grateful to the Statens musikbibliotek (The Music Library of Sweden) for permission to publish the movements included in the Lezioni and Recueil de Pièces pour la Viol d’Amour (Ro. 99): to the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek, Darmstadt, for permission to publish Pur al fin, Cantata a voce sola con la Viola d’Amore del Sig: Attilio Ariosti (Mus. Ms 1041 /12); and to the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at UCLA for Fileno che le frodi, Cantata alto Solo Con violini e viola d’amore, (MSS. A7125M4.E34 1731). I also consulted the facsimile edition of the Cantatas and a Collection of Lessons for the Viol d’Amore, reprinted by Arnaldo Forni."
First release includes Stockholm Sonatas 15-21. Contact brian@primalamusica.com or see their website www.primalamusica.com. Price is estimated at £ 10.
